This month we congratulate Mastery Impact! client Sunview Custom Cabinetry for being recognized recently with three regional awards: the Product Design & Quality Award for excellence in architectural woodwork on a project greater than $200K from the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (Southern Alberta chapter), and Tommie Awards for Excellence in Kitchen Design over $40K and Home of the Year from the Canadian Home Builders Association (Central Okanagan region).
Sunview Custom Cabinetry offers the full spectrum of residential millwork services, from custom cabinetry and finish carpentry to one of a kind furniture pieces. Sunview’s experience and know-how mean clients can expect exceptional results and original work, all hand-crafted to their specifications. Every project is tailored to clients’ unique needs and desires - no two projects are alike. Sunview is uniquely positioned to combine the timeless quality of old-world craftsmanship with the ability to execute complex, large-scale residential projects. Sunview guarantees the care and attention to detail throughout every aspect of each project, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience.
We have been extremely honored to receive these awards. They affirm the hard work we have put into building a great team and developing strong relationships with partners who share our commitment to excellence. We were also very fortunate to have a visionary client with exacting standards for us to live up to. Our capacity was tested in every way, and the challenge drove us to new heights!
What brought us to E-Myth? We had a business coach a couple of years ago who recommended that we read The E-Myth Revisited book “as soon as possible.” I finally got around to reading it early in 2009 and was blown away. I got the CDs for Mani to listen to in the car, as he was doing a lot of driving at that time. I remember getting a call from him after he had finished the first couple of chapters saying: “Oh my gosh, it’s like he’s inside my head reading my mind!” That was a real turning point for us as business owners and partners.
I then found the E-Myth website, which led to us attending the Leadership Intensive in California last spring. Half-way through the first day of the workshop, we knew we needed to begin the Mastery Impact! coaching program and the rest is history!
We were both spending too much time working in the business rather than on the business. Mani especially was getting really burned out wearing too many hats (business owner, project manager, sales manager, shop foreman, etc.), and trying to be everything to everyone. We knew we needed to make a change, but weren’t sure how to go about it.
It's been great working with our E-Myth coach. He keeps us focused on moving forward with our business, and has served as an effective mediator when we have issues in our partnership. It has been very helpful having an outside perspective when it’s difficult to see the forest for the trees.
Speaking for myself, as the true Entrepreneur in the partnership, the program has clarified the need for me to step up into the strategic role. I now spend approximately 75% of my time doing strategic work and 25% doing tactical work. I’m working towards increasing my strategic work to 100%. It has also helped us to understand that Mani is much more of a Technician and Manager than an Entrepreneur. We used to have a lot of difficulty in our business relationship before we understood our different approaches, and why we didn’t always see eye to eye. Now we understand our strengths and can use them more effectively to advance our goals.
One of things that really stands out for us has been The Financial Controller. It's been key to understanding our numbers. It took a few months of working closely with an accounting consultant to get our books to the point where we had clean data to enter, and that in itself was a huge learning process.
The Mastery Impact! program is a lot of work and not for the faint of heart. But for anyone who is serious about building a leading company, it provides the systems and tools necessary to succeed.
