Why It's Good to be an Entrepreneur Right Now

The Embark Community Connection team reads and reviews many online Entrepreneurial sites and will occasionally draw attention to articles and information of interest. This week we found a great slideshow from the, Fresh Inc. blog (a constantly updated blog from the Inc. magazine team), that lists 75 reasons why it is a great time to be an entrepreneur right now.

Below we have selected a few of our favorite reasons from the list:

• Number 11: Because we're not rookies anymore. In 25 years of entrepreneurial expansion there have been experiments tried, experiences learned from, discoveries made, and notes taken. Launch a business today and you get shoulders to stand on--you don't have to make it all up from scratch.
• Number 13: Because mothers, finally, are allowed. Their many stories can be distilled to a composite voice: "You don't have to make excuses anymore, and trust me, I've made excuses. About why I had to reschedule a client meeting or not stay for that extra beer or was on a noisy cell phone in what was obviously not an office. I felt like I constantly had to hide my kids--from my employees and investors and, God knows, from my customers. But something changed. Including me and what I'm willing to fake. All I know is that lately no one cares anymore if my schedule's unusual or I have my family occasionally on my mind. Even clients. They bring it up. They want to work around it. Maybe it's just that more and more of them are trying to work around it themselves --men and women both."
• Number 27: The broadbanded, Wi-Fied, video-enabled, international-boundary-eradicating, cost-reducing, market-expanding, ever-stereophonic, and cyber-educating Internet.
• Number 40: Because entrepreneurship is a way out, a way through. In processing interviews in New York City Family Court, kids still say they want most to be NBA basketball players--but the second most commonly stated goal is "to be an entrepreneur."
• Number 49: Because the paper isn't blank--and copying is encouraged. This is Todd Harff, president of Creating Results Strategic Marketing in Occoquan, Virginia:"I don't have time to make all the mistakes myself, and I'm too impatient not to capitalize on other people's ideas. That's all good, though, because of how it's gotten so much easier to learn from the history and mistakes and proven ideas of others. That's why I like being in TEC [The Executive Committee, a peer group and counseling organization]. And the Internet, too, has enormously altered how easy it is to research articles, case studies, and management ideas. When you're hitting your head against the wall, you almost always can find out about someone else who hit his or her head against the same wall and figured out an answer. It gains you a lot of ground fast."

   For me it's good to be an Entrepreneur Right Now simply because I beleive that God is giving you and me everything that we need...yeah you read that right! I really mean everything. The problem is, the majority of the human population does not recognize it. They live their life in FEAR...fear of knowledge, of wisdom, of success, of being broke, and even fear of being rich, fear of everything. Remember Jesus'message for us is "Do not be afraid", so why be afraid? Go on, open your mind,heart, and soul...see,hear,taste,smell,and feel. Start your business and keep on learning, because God will help you.

   How exciting it is to come to a place and find other like minded individuals. It seems like it is never the right time and if I keep waiting for the right time, I will wait myself right out of an opportunity!!

   I think it's a good time to be an entreprenuer right now because the alternative is life in prison (as an employee working for someone else). The corporate world (and the government) is demonstrating that you are valued even less now, and someday your job will be shipped overseas to somewhere else where labor is cheaper. As an Entreprenuer, you are in control, you make the decisions, and you reap the rewards or the failures. So try it, because even if you fail, you can always try again, or go back to the corporate world, but you have even better chances of succeeding as an Entreprenuer now, especially with resources like E-Myth and Embark.

   Steve, Thank you very much for your insightful comments. It seems like your perspective is resonating with many people. One reason I believe it is a great time to be an entrepreneur is the dramatically lower cost of doing business in the global marketplace. With millions of new people coming on line from all over the globe and cost of hardware and software dropping while the functionality and availability increases, the result is a much flatter and more accessible business environment for the entrepreneur.

   It's great to be an entrepreneur now as it really excites everyone you talk to and you can encourage those who have thought about doing it and have always found as excuse. I have 2 kids and have managed to do it with a great supportive husband. We stepped way out of the box and went for it. We have an "unconventional" lifestyle that suits us and worries everyone else!!Clients are always complimentary about me having kids and doing work I love. It is empowering being a woman with a brain and using it!! It is the only way forward and people know that and want to be part of it. The internet has changed everything. Being able to work an do from home and connect with like minded people all around the globe. It's a very exciting time.
