Generate Leads Last

The E-Myth Insider

10 April 2008 Brought to you by E-Myth Worldwide

Dear E-Myth Reader,

The fundamental E-Myth business model is The Seven Centers of Management Attention™. Three of the seven categories involve direct contact with prospects and customers; Lead Generation, Lead Conversion and Client Fulfillment.

To prepare for these three activities, one might think that the planning and the execution of those plans should follow the sequence of a sale, i.e., generate leads, convert leads to sales, fulfill client expectations.
We say Not So, and we'll explain.

Generate Leads Last

Are we suggesting that businesses generate new leads after first ensuring that products will fulfill client expectations, and then preparing lead conversion systems? Yes.
Are we confused about the natural order of planning? We don't think so.

Your customers' level of satisfaction is determined by how well your products and services fulfill their needs. This then is the first customer-facing priority; make certain your products deliver on your promises.

The next step is to formulate a dependable lead conversion system and design it to track the progress of each lead coming your way. Be ready to adapt if your sales conversion system needs to change in order to increase your conversion rate.

Now that your products deliver and your sales conversion process is ready, you can develop and execute plans for lead generation. Because once those leads start coming in, you'll be ready to convert them into customers who will have their expectations fulfilled.
